i was thinking of something where i could just buy a barrel through midway. i seen they have 307 barrels for around 100 bucks. if i was going to go with a custom barrel it would be a big bore like a 50 alaskan or something.

Don't do a 307 on a regular 94. They were not built to take the pressures of the 307. If you want a 307 look around for one that was made in that caliber.

Choices are limited, the .50 AK is way too big for the 94. I'd have to agree with the .30-30 AI or perhaps .38-55.

There's the 7mm Waters, the 38-55, of course you could rebarrel to 30-30 again, the 32 special, and a horde of handgun rounds.
The handgun rounds are likely to cause you the most grief during conversion.
The first four, have the 30-30 rim size, and may only require some modification of the cartridge guides. Not sure on that.

You could have it re-lined to 25/35. I am having one done that way right now. The barrel was like a sewer pipe and I always wanted a 25/35. By lining you retain the original barrel.

I've always been a big fan of the .357 Herret and had a price quote to have one rebarrelled... $450, give or take? I decided I could live without it for now. :-\

Win Big Bore barrels have a different pitch thread and will not fit on standard 94. I rebarreled a 30-30 to 38-55 nothing ealse needed to be done. I think my next one is going to be to 25-35 AI. Which is basically a 30-30 necked down to .257 cal. The list using the same cartridge only necked different is  25-35, 30-30, 32 spl, 38-55 and 7-30 waters.  If your intersted in boring it out there is guy named Jesse Occaumgh ,or something like that, who advertises on guns america who rebores for around $150.From the reports I read he does good work.

I rebarrelled my '94AE to 7-30 Waters and am completely satisfied with it. It was a simple job to unscrew the old barrel and install the new one. That's all that needed to be done.
If you have a top eject '94 you have to make a new extractor cut, but that is all.
I get my kicks from an 1886.
