Vanilla as a cover scent???
« on: November 08, 2006, 03:42:40 AM »
Anybody ever use vanilla extract in a spay bottle as a cover scent or a lure.  Alot of the commercially sold stuff smells just like vanilla extract to me..

Thanks
Jeff

I've used skin so soft for years to keep ticks away and it's sweet strong smell doesn't seem to bother deer.

There is a long thread about this in the bow hunting forum.  An elk guide my dad and I bowhunt with uses it as a cover scent as he explained to us its the closest thing he's found that smells like elk.  This outfitter strongly discourages using store bought cover scents since the scents, well basically don't smell like the stuff in Oregon. We thought Jim was pulling our chain but he's serious.

I've heard several hunters say that they used it and that it works, but I have never gave it a try to see.
