.264 Win Mag ??

No, they don't have to custom at all, the M700 for example has a 375 length mag. I have been using a 300 Sendero for years & it
is not a problem in any way. I just asked a friend about the mag. length of his new Vanguard MOA & it has a long Magnum mag. as others do too!
The 264 bullets are long, but the gripping area is fine, but it was a good thing for writers to worry about at the time. The 7mag is the same way, but some have decided it is not a problem, a pet cartridge for them I guess. In the past I owned 3 7RM & loaded a bunch of those heavy & long 7 mag bullets & neck length was not an issue, not once. The 223 actually has a less than 1 cal. neck & the 75 OTM now used by the Mil. & the 77MK that alot of us use are fairly long bullets, now consider the battering that goes on with mil. ammo, clips, etc., yet
not a problem. The 223 has power issues for the mil., but the short neck part of the equation is a non issue.
That is why the short neck is not brought up by writters the way that it used to be, they have stood the test of time. The numbers tell us that.
7RM is the most popular mag & 300WM is number 2 & I don't see any changes in the near future.

I am looking for a Sendero in 264 now. I know of some already sold & they are extremely accurate, but the owners do not know of the old articles, I won't tell some so they will continue to get those small groups.

     Hmmm I don't recall saying that they were incapable of shootign small groups  .

     However I do not like cartridges with short necks and was rather peeved when a re-chamber job came back as not exactly what I asked for. Instead of getting a .303 Epps I got a .303 IMP wiht a shorter neck and more case capacity  . In fact I have not worked with that rifle much as every time I see the cases it reminds me and puts me off it all over again  .

    I never like a bullet to be seated below the neck shoulder juncture and would rather change bullet if this happens and would rather have the bullet seated out further so it does not actually each the juncture than go deeper.

    Oh and I also went with the .222 Remington rather than the .233  .

1. Not personal Brithunter, some have put far more emphasis on this neck thing in the past than you did.
2. And I don't like to seat bullets that way either & that was my point, with factory guns that are set up properly you just don't have too, but alot of folks don't know that. With the Sendero for example, you can seat bullets just the way you want to. 

The 222 is a great round & I like it alot, but it would bring no advantage to me whatsoever for my target/varmit application. I have a RRA Var. that will shoot 5 shots in well under 1/2"with SEVERAL loads which handles the Varmit/informal target needs well. Some loads are more like one elongigated hole. I don't use it for comp. & in BR comp. neither of these rounds are the hot item. So for me, I have no niche where the 222 would help, but i'm glad someone does, I hate to see great rounds disappear.

My first centerfire rifle purchased back in 1952 is  a Win Mdl 70 270 Winchester  which I still own. I have shot pronghorn, mule deer and elk with that rifle . The old 270 Win is a fine round  but when I had a chance to get a Win Mdl 70 .264 Win with a 26 inch barrel ,I got it.  .264 Winchester fans should read the artical ( New Powders In The .264 Winchester Magnum ) that started on page 34 of the Feb. 2005 No.233 issue of the Handloaders Ammunition Reloading Journal.  Wolf Publishing Co. Tell  (928)445-7810 may have some back issues. I havent used the old 270 since I got the .264 Win. Mag. You need a 26 inch barrel in the 264 Win rifle. If you get a .264 Win with a 22 inch  barrel you gest as well get a 270 Win.
