Quad Ultra Varmint?
« on: November 21, 2006, 07:31:21 PM »
I came across an Ultra varmint in 22Mag at a decent price and the thought hit me why not a Quad Ultra with the 17m2, 17hmr,22lr, and the base 22mag. Even if you topped it off with Burris's Quad 3x9 rimfire scope ($300) and the cost of the additional barrels and fitting, say($200-$250 give or take) it could all be had at roughly a third of the cost of the Sako ($1700-rifle,$300-Burris scope,+ taxes). Any one else thought along these lines? Would the barrels listed as fitted to Sportster frames only work? and of course the unlisted 17m2?

All of the rimfire barrels will fit the 22mag Ultra frame, extra barrels are $72 to $80 each fitted, plus the cost of shipping both ways, I'd rather just buy complete rifles when it comes to the rimfires, 22Lr Sportsters are $110, the M2 and Hmr are $130 regular price, cheaper on sale, that's not much more than the cost of a barrel after shipping. ;)

I also prefer to just buy the complete rifle.  I have a 22 mag Ultra Varmint and wanted a 17 M2 so I just purchased the 17 M2 sportster rifle.  Also never know when you might have a buddy or family member visiting who doesn't have a rifle handy and wants to do some hunting or shooting with you.  It was an easy decision for me though because I had all of the other rimfire calibers already including 22 mag in CZ's, Marlins, and Savage.
