What do you all mean by pallet wood stock?

Pallets are made of inexpensive, brittle, soft wood like pine that is roughly sawn. They are typically 1.3 meters square and are used for the transportation of stackable cargo, such as boxes. A fork lift is used to carry the pallet of goods to trucks, and to storage in warehouses. After the pallets are used, they are recycled until they are no longer serviceable. Sometimes they are discarded. This junk is then used for various wood working projects, such as building childrens' play houses, and other projects where the builder does not need high quality wood.

The planks that make up a pallet are typically 3cm x 20cm. Some are thicker. They are assembled with nails.

So you mean they use old pallets to make our Handi stocks?

As Questor stated, pallets are made of plain, inexpensive wood, that's as far as the term "pallet" wood applies to Handi stocks, they're made of Beech hardwood which is a fine stock wood that even many military firearms stocks are made,  but not much in having  great looks with the finish the factory puts on em, hence they're referred to a pallet wood. They can be made to look very nice with a little TLC refinishing.

Handi rifle stocks are functional but not cosmetically beautiful. In stocks you pay heavily for cosmetics. Like Mossberg, Handi keeps costs down by delivering a serviceable stock at a low price. I believe the wood is birch, which costs a lot less than walnut, but it's perfectly good stuff functionally.

with all due respect to Quick, I would have to say they look like birch.

Heh heh, I wouldn't know one from the other, they've been called birch and beech on here, so I don't think it makes much difference, and over the years they've probably used both.

beech birch ,,  as long as its inexpensive an works  for most thats all we want, or need, if you want pruuuurddy  then get busy on makin them that way, dont  forgetthere black sets on the shotguns an such, aret those  black swamp walnut??
