New to this game and Loving it.
« on: November 12, 2006, 01:45:52 AM »
Awhile ago I started thinking about getting a muzzleloader.  The biggest hurdle is I shoot left handed.    Well, to make a long story short:  A few weeks ago after "ribbing" my buddy at work for not getting out during the early muzzleloading season and how I would have borrowed it from him if I knew he wasn't going,  he sold me his left handed .50 cal Lyman Deerstalker flintlock and several item I would need to get started for a price that I couldn't refuse.

It only took me a few rounds through it to realize "what I had been missing" this whole time.  With help from another freind we worked up a load that is grouping really good out to 75yds.  I have been shooting it, researching it (here and elsewhere), and shooting it, and shooting it some more.  I just ordered a mould so that I can start making my own bullets for it.  I pick that up on Thursday along with the meltingpot and other items that my dad is giving me to get me started smelting.

Thank you to the many who have answered previous posts(questions).  It saved me from having to ask them all over again.  I have to get ready to go to the range now.  It's almost shooting time.

Welcome to the love of all things blackpowder.  I will warn you they are addictive.  Soon one will not be enough.

Great! You are starting your black powder experience with a flintlock. You are going to have some fun. The .50 round ball is a deer killer to beat the band at the range you specified.
Aim small don't miss.

I'm not sure if it's chanel #5,  but throw in the beewax and borebutter and it does have some aroma of "love potion #9".
Just picked up my melting gear the other day and am learning the in's and out's there as well.  This is such a great sport.   ;D
