Auto - Primers

The auto -primers like RCBS and others givethis panic warining about some primers to never use ,
some to only use 10-20 at a time ,. What is supose to set the primers off in the auto-primers   I cann't figure it out  .  At the store I have seen  "  clerks "  throw boxes of primers into the carry out bags  and I almost hit the ground !!  I am shocked there wouldn't be a problem with being thrown but in the auto-primer the panic button goes off     Any  thoughts ??

The big concern is having that many primers in an enclosed space.  If one primer goes off, in the process blasting into another one nearby, it can cause a chain reaction.  This reaction is compounded inside a metal tube; it can happen fast enough to simulate a small explosion, with the primer tube being the primary container.  Needless to say, it can become a shrapnel hazard.

I'm talking about the  "  In your hand  squeeze  kind of auto - primer "   I just got one and it is a dream compared to the tube on the press kind i have used for  20 yr.

I have 2 of the Lee hand primers, I use all different primers and have put as much as 120 primers in them at a time. 30 years of reloading no problems.

If you are not careful you can double prime the loader or get something stuck in front of the primer. Then when you add more pressure it could go off. Also if you did not clean the primer pocket out it could get stuck on the way in and when you add more presuure it could go off. Very rare situations but you do have to be safe. Same thing with the way you point it. Always case mouth facing away from you and others.

With the tube kind on my  Rock Crusher  ,  From all the talk I only would have 20 - 30 primers in the tube at a time, with my face as far away as I could . It always tide up my press, about 1 - 10 primers wouldn't seat all the way and I would   Redo - Redo - Redo,  The "hand - primer "   WOW , Slick, smooth , fast ,  Where have I been all these years??    To  "   ME "  it doesn't  look  near as dangerous !!!

I like them so much I have two,one setup for large and one for small primers.Had them for last 20 years and won't be using anything else.You could say they are slicker than butter-man,sorry couldn't help myself.

Sounds good butterman,those labs are nice dogs I have a blacklab.A tip for the auto primers,some new brass will have tight primer pockets and sometimes it will feel like you are crushing the primer while seating them.I sharpen a #3 pencil and run it around the primer pocket a time or two,primer eill go in easier and you can feel it hit bottom better.Some brass I do that the first 3-4 loadings,some just the first depending on how they feel when seating primers.
