I've prospected some pretty good places like the Mother Lode country of California, the southern deserts of California and Arizona along with Nevada.

I now live in southern New Mexico and do a little prospecting around an old gold mining town called White Oaks, seems Billy the Kidd use to hang out here too lol.

Years ago I was lucky enough to met the late Buzzard George Massie a few times in California along with his sons Tom and Perry, but it was a friend of his and his boys named "Cory" that showed me the ropes. I was very lucky, Cory was tought by the best in the game.

I'm very happy to see a prospecting section on Graybeards, God Bless.

Yes, you are absolutely right. But, it's still an area where you can occasionally find small nuggets instead of dust. I did find a better place in New Mexico.

In my wifes garden area in the front yard. We live right over the main shaft of the old Empire Star Mine in N. Cal. She gets her garden dug up and I manage to find some color.

I am currently working out of Valdez Alaska. Although there were a lot of mines in the area they were mostly lode gold.  The quartz deposits were from 1,200 to 3,000 feet in elevation  (I am living at sea level).  So I have panned every stream north and reviewed every mining report that I could find heading north out of town.

Finally found some placed gold in some bedrock cracks and with the dredge.  Over an hour north and five miles back by ATV.

Several years ago I found a little color north of Glenwood, N.M.  I would sure like to go back, just haven't been able to work it into my schedule yet, but I am now offically retired, and plan to pull the trailer that way sometime next spring.  For those folks that live in the eastern part of the states, don't overlook Georgia.  I have seen some good nuggets that came from Ga., I just never had (took) the time to do any looking for myself, but plan to correct that Sept-Oct this year.

Wherever there is gold of course!  Rich Hill,Gold Basin,Wickenburg all in Arizona and then for a change I cruise to Coolgardie just outside of Bastow,Ca.
Have yet to try my backyard in Southern Nevada.
