ported barrels
« on: November 20, 2006, 04:10:32 PM »
I am completely new to the T/C lines.  I am considering jumping in.  I have become a huge fan of the single shot.

Now for my question.  How are the ported barrels to shoot.  I know some of these calibers on a pistol barrel are kinda ridiculous as far as recoil goes.  However, they seem like they would be unbearable, even for one shot when hunting with the short, ported barrels.  Am I wrong?

Thans for the help

Porting definately will reduce muzzle flip and felt recoil. It will also increase noise. I have a .243 Striker with a muzzle brake that can be closed and have shot it both open and closed just to see how much difference there really is, and there is a big difference in muzzle flip. As for recoil, that is pretty much a personal thing as to how much is to much. I got my first .44 mag. in 1966 and have become addicted to recoil over the years and figure if a gun doesen`t have a good stiff recoil it`s just not enough gun for the job, even if I shooting mice. I had alittle girl, abt 110 lbs., fire my .500 S&W with 440 gn. bullets loaded to the max. and she had to fire a second shot befor she had enough, but I`ve had some pretty good size men that coulldn`t take a second shot.
