I've used ballistic tips to take my last two deer though it isn't a 7mm, I'm shooting a 338 win mag with a 180 grain ballistic tip @ 3200fps. 1st deer was 190lbs and he was facing directly away from me at 297 yards and I sent the bullet right up his spine. The bullet penetrated 14 inches total and the deer went down on the spot. The second deer using the same load was at 100 yards with a broadside shot and I shot him through the back end of his lungs and the bullet didn't go through the deer and I found it in the opposing side ribs. believe he was still breathing so I shot him again withe the same load at ten feet away and I shot him through the base of the head top of the neck and the bullet didn't go throughand I found it undert he skin on the opposite side. to me I don't want a bullet to pass through a animal that I'm trying to kill if the bullet stops in the animal that means it depossited all it's energy on that animal. If I was going for elk or something bigger then deer I'd go with a bonded bullet but for deer all I'm using is ballistic tips from here on out no matter what caliber I'm gonna use. All these hi tech bullets are great but honestly do you really need them? remingtons old coreloct bullets and winchesters silver tips ( which act just like ballistic tips in a way) have always worked great for years.
