Making myself a snake charmer
« on: November 20, 2006, 03:47:11 PM »
Hi All

I have been wanting to make a snake charmer and I traded a friend of mine a sight for his 410 single shot

Well I almost got it finished. The bead and tap kit should be in tomorrow

What do you think so far?

Barrel is 19" long and overall it is just under 27" long so it fills BATF regs

Looks good. I've done a 12 and a couple 20 gauges, but never a .410. (The 12 was miserable to shot!)

i made my own bead mounting block, drilled the barrel , threaded mine at 3/56, and used a stainless .115 ball bead, 1 inch from the end of the barrel..for my .410.. working up a camp gun 12 gauge now, till the stocks come in for the .410. the 12 gauge is a springfield stevens, 1930. 12 gauge single shot , break open. i cut the barrel to 19 inches and installed a new .130 brass bead and added uncle mikes sling swivels and a bandolier sling, but its a real stomper, so i need to add a recoil pad..
cut the stock back so the LOP doesnt change to much..
not as issue wiht that .410 though..
that looks to be a newer reciever and barrel, how does it group ?

...so i need to add a recoil pad..

I tried this cut down Savage Model 94 before the recoil was added!!! Wow!! The pad made a big difference.

thats very close to what i have. mine is a springfield stevens model 94a, firing the gun more then once requires a recoil pad for sure.
the .410 is all together a different story and im sure Kid will love shootiing his like i do mine. as read in another post, im going plastic stocks from Choate though. the tamer stock and the survivor forend.

scibaer, Please be sure to post a pic of yours when it is complete.  I always wondered what that combo or stock and forend would look like.

Wally, I gotta tell ya, I really like the looks of yours.  Especially the sights.

i did make up a photoshopped version for  .410 to see what it would look like. if you know how to post it i'll send it to you .

Thank you, Cookiemann. Here are close ups of the sights in case anyone else is interested too. They made all the difference when it came to putting slugs down range with any accuracy. With the bead it was a waste of time, for me anyway. (I'm not much of shotgun guy.) On this Savage, the hood on the front sight just fulls the rear aperture at 100 yds.
