Will a G2 forearm fit a older Contender?
« on: November 28, 2006, 09:31:24 AM »
Howdy all,

Picked up a 23" 30-30 barrel from another list member - but none of my forearms fit it. Looking at the TC catalog, I see a forearm for the 23" G2, but it makes no mention of it fitting the older Contender. (part number 7735)

So the question to those that have both - if I have my local dealer order it up, will it fit correctly?

Take care,
Bob S.

OK - I'll answer my own question.   ;D

After getting the forearm in, it does fit, but you have to modify it a little to work correctly. The older Contender frames need the forearm to have a notch allow enough room for the release lever to move correctly.

A little time with files and a sharp blade was all it took - works fine.

Take care,

I was watching this post for the answer as well.  I just picked up a G2 12/14" Pistol Forend and it fit my older 14" Bull Barrel and frame fine, no cutting or anything.  Is your frame and Easy Open?

Yup - easy open frame. I looked at the forearm I have on my 45/70 barrel (16 1/2"), it's a Bell & Carlson carbine set, and it too has the notch cut. I had hoped that forearm would fit the 23" barrel, but the mount spacing is off.

I'll take a picture or two and post them - I'm curious.

the foreend fits on the barrel..........not the frame. The barrels interchange from G2 to Contender. Purchase foreends to match the barrel not the frame.

Yes - I know the forend attaches to the barrel - I've had Contenders for a while.  ;)

The question was would the forend from a G2 fit the older frame. And the answer is yes, with some modification. Here are 3 pics (sorry about the quality), the forend of the G2 needs the area just in front of the frame removed to allow the lever to open the action to have full movement.
