Thank you, UPS. Need help disassembling SKS

I got my first C&R last night.  It is a very sweet SKS from AIM.  My problem is that I can't get the barrelled action out of the stock.  I can't get the bayonet off either.  There is a slotted screw on the side of the stock-does it come out?

Any help would be appreciated.

3 major disassembly points on an SKS.

  1> Top of the receiver.  Close the bolt and lift the lever on the right up and pull it out of the gun.  The rear receiver assembly, bolt and springs pull out.

  2> right behind the trigger.  If you got a REAL nice one, there is a cleaning kit in a hide-hole in the stock.  There's a pointy stick in there for this purpose.  Press in the 'button' and pull the trigger out.  I can't remember if the safety needs to be off or on.  On I think.

  3>Beside the rear sight.  On the right side, slide the lever up and you can pull the gas tube up and off of the gun.

Mine doesn't have a wooden stock, so I don't know about the slotted screw, but this will strip the gun for any cleaning and maintenance procedure needed.

The slotted screw is the recoil lug and you should never remove it.Dis-assembly and re-assembly are always done with the action cocked and safety on.

I have been lurking on surplusrifle.com for awhile.  I downloaded the Army manual.  It was killing me that I couldn't get the action out.  Turns out it was just swollen wood and cosmo sticking it in place.  The bayonet came off when I quit limpwristing the screwdriver. 

jpsmith- How about that little push button "secret compartment"?  Pretty sweet, the cleaning kit was covered in green and black corrosion from the decayed brass jag, but it cleaned up nice enough.  The punch looking thing worked fine.  Thanks.  (it is safety UP by the way)

Quite a rifle actually.  Not super accurate, but good enough for the intended job.  Not super powerful, but good enough.  Mine has a synthetic, folding stock.  When the folding kit is installed, the rifle is very difficult to shoot rapidly.  This may have something to do with the fact that I'm a lefty.

Feed it good ammo, I happen to like Wolf brand when I shoot.  I've gotten more into handguns lately.  Also, if you are going to buy aftermarket mags, make sure that you get good ones.  I've tried several that just won't feed more than 2 or 3 rounds without jamming.
