New gun, first kills, using my first bullets...
« on: November 25, 2006, 01:43:39 PM »
I decided this morning to go after squirrels with my new 32 magnum Single-Six conversion. I was shooting a load with my first cast bullets. The load is 2.5g of Trail Boss, CCI-500 primers, and bullets dropped from a 95g Saeco SWC mould, sized to .312" in my Rockchucker, and lubed with LEE Alox.

My poor uncle has hunted his butt off for two weeks now, and is still deerless. Honestly, I don't know how he could be so unlucky ??? ::) ;D. I decided to still hunt for squirrels in a patch of woods we hunt, and in the process, try to push a deer past him. It worked great till he flat missed a deer less than 30 yards away with a scoped rifle :o. In his defense, he hit a low sapling at about 10-15 yards. I guess it was distorted in his scope. That's the "very" reason I prefer to use a revolver, or iron sighted lever action when hunting the thicker stuff.

Anyway, I did manage to limit out on squirrels with a couple real whoppers as you can see here. Our limit is six, but one big fox squirrel acted hit before running in a hole up on a big oak tree trunk, so I counted him along with these. Five is plenty for a pot of stew anyway.

I can honestly say that with the combination of limiting out on squirrels, carrying a brand new custom revolver, and using my very first attempts at cast bullets, this was about the most enjoyable hunt I've had in several years. ;D ;D ;D

Congratulations Jerry! I have a hard time killing that many with my scoped .22 rifle. It looks to me like you're a great shot with that beautiful little .32 and your homemade 95 grainers!

Good Shooting Jerry!!
Sounds like a great day in the woods, carrying a nice lil' custom revolver, your own reloads, topped off w/home brewed cast bullets - then to limit out on squirrels as you are trying to help someone else get their deer.

Who did the custom work to make your .32 mag single-six??  A friend of mine has been looking for one of the factory Ruger Biselys in that caliber & size, not sure how many were made, but I know I've only seen one as I keep my eyes open for him - he ened up getting out bid in the end.

Again, congratulations, and the pictures posted are great!

Clements Custom Guns did the conversion for me. He does fantastic work! He did inform me though when I went to pick it up that he will not convert another new model to 32 magnum. He said this thing was a pain in the butt! LOL!

There's actually several places I found on the net that does the 32 magnum conversions on Single Sixes. One place if I'm remembering right is called Georgia Precision.

Sometime the hunts for small game are much more gratifying that big game hunts !
I am actually kind of looking forward to the end of deer season so I can get after some Squirrels and
Rabbits without as much worry about being blasted myself!

That is cool! You can really handle a sixgun. Your fox squirrels are whoppers. We hunt tree rats with pistols here too. Our limit is 5. My son in law did it but so far four is my best.
