I decided this morning to go after squirrels with my new 32 magnum Single-Six conversion. I was shooting a load with my first cast bullets. The load is 2.5g of Trail Boss, CCI-500 primers, and bullets dropped from a 95g Saeco SWC mould, sized to .312" in my Rockchucker, and lubed with LEE Alox.
My poor uncle has hunted his butt off for two weeks now, and is still deerless. Honestly, I don't know how he could be so unlucky
. I decided to still hunt for squirrels in a patch of woods we hunt, and in the process, try to push a deer past him. It worked great till he flat missed a deer less than 30 yards away with a scoped rifle
. In his defense, he hit a low sapling at about 10-15 yards. I guess it was distorted in his scope. That's the "very" reason I prefer to use a revolver, or iron sighted lever action when hunting the thicker stuff.
Anyway, I did manage to limit out on squirrels with a couple real whoppers as you can see here. Our limit is six, but one big fox squirrel acted hit before running in a hole up on a big oak tree trunk, so I counted him along with these. Five is plenty for a pot of stew anyway.
I can honestly say that with the combination of limiting out on squirrels, carrying a brand new custom revolver, and using my very first attempts at cast bullets, this was about the most enjoyable hunt I've had in several years.
