m92 tang sight
« on: November 29, 2009, 02:14:17 PM »
I am wanting to add Marble's Tang peep sight to my new Rossi m92 .357 mag.  Is this a drop in or will I need to drill and tap to install it?  I see you need to pick the right sight for your model and the right screw set for your make and model on the midway sight.  This makes me think it is a drop in but it says gun smithing maybe required.  Just wanting to know what I am getting myself in for.  Future projects will be refinishing the stock and putting a plug in the safety.  But one at a time for now.

Thanks for your help

There is a video on installation on Marbles web page:http://www.marblearms.com/standardPeepTang_info.html

I am trying to decide if I want to go this route or go the Williams reciever route on my Rossi .357.
Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

Tang peep sights are good for target work but not so good for hunting use. So if hunting is the primary use of the rifle I'd not add a tang sight but if target use is the primary purpose then it is the best choice for accuracy tho only by a small margin over a receiver peep.

Thanks for the video.

GB,

I have no idea what I am going to use this rifle for.  I bought it for me as a fun gun, but with the idea it would be a good gun for the wife and kids to shoot.  The kids are not old enough yet so it will be some time before they can shoot.  Odds are I will hunt with it some but have other guns better for that so that will be a limited use.  After shooting it with some 38 specials, I am pretty much convinced this will be one heck of a plinker.  I have receiver peeps on several guns but wanted to try a tang for something different.

The Rossi has an existing hole where the video is drilling a hole in the Uberti.  Now I am wondering if these will line up, if I will have to add a third hole, or the holes won't line up but will over lap and that would not work at all.  Anyone on here done this to a Rossi?  How did it go?

It's a wonderfull world where folks can disagree . I fitted a Lyman Tang sight to my .357 Rossi M92 , my rifle was pre drilled and tapped and the sight dropped right in . The Marbles has the same hole spacing . It's proven an awesome Hunting sight for me . I used a .093 aperture on a 5 day hunt last week that worked a treat but a month ago I had a weekend hunt where I screwed the aperture out . Both hunts proved succesfull and I enjoyed the longer sighting radius , running shots have proven a lot easier with the Tang and target aquisition is so quick it will amaze you . Even at real close range I use the Tang in favour of the flip up Marbles buckhorns I chose to fit .

On targets my accuracy has improved over the dovetail mounted peep sight I was using . I can make reliable hits out to 200 yards on a 12" target . At my normal practice ranges of 50 and 100 yards the rifle shoots as good as I'm seeing on the day

I did not buy the Marbles Tang  as I could not spare the cash at the time . I have not missed the windage adjustment but think if I put a Tang on my 1894 Marlin I would buy the Marbles . I put a Williams Foolproof on the Marlin once again to save pennies . When you order your Tang sight you order the correct length Tang screw

Okay, y'all tell me if I have this correct.   :-\

I noticed that my 92 had a second hole drilled drilled in the tang, above the tang screw.  I also noted in the vidio that the hole he drilled was in approximately the same place.

So am I correct in my understanding that the Rossi M92 is already drilled for the tang sight?  I know that's what was said, but sometimes what I read is not what people mean.   :-[

Also, my rifle came with a second tang screw (long) in a package marked "for use with tang sight."  What is the correct front screw?

Good questions Atlaw.  At least I am not the only one that needs clarification.  Mine came with the tang screw as well.

The extra/longer tang screw is a nice perk/extra, ILO having to buy one with the Marble's Tang peep sight - since the longer tang screw is needed to replace the shorter/issue screw, to allow for the tang sight base thickness.

It's also nice to have the factory prep (D/T) for the tang sight forward base hole/screw, ILO having to have a gunsmith do it or DIY.

The forward base screw is a shorty, and is included in the package when a new Marble's tang peep is purchased.

The forward hole filler plug screw, now in the tang, is removed and the sight base installed with the supplied short screw at the front & the longer tang screw at the rear.

Thanks Ranger!  I may get that Marble's tang sight a little sooner then I had planned to since I don't have to get the tang drilled/tapped!   ;D
