Tried the taco hold, shooting off bags, resting the side of the gun on a tree, one hand on the forearm. Just never got comfortable with the gun that close. The other thing is I plan to hunt squirrels with this barrel. I will not be wearing earplugs when hunting. That thing is loud with the muzzle that close to the face.
Ordered a scope yesterday. I did have the gun shooting 3 shots touching at 50 yards with the rifle scope. Maybe I will not be able to shoot as good with the pistol scope, will need to put the riflescope back on and then get another pistol barrel (45-70) for the new scope. Now thats a plan.
About the suggestion on the Shotgun Scope, I think that would be a better setup. I just do not happen to have one on hand and if I ordered one and did not like it I would have to sell it at a lose since I would have no other use for it.
After shooting this pistol like this, I have another opinion in my mind. When you do get in a postion to shoot with a rest under the forearm the gun is very stable, basically like a short rifle. Whenever I shoot, if using bags I only rest the front of the gun since I want at least some operator involvement other than squezzing the trigger. This sucker was more like shooting a rifle than a pistol. I am going for the pistol feel and will get the rifles out if I want that feel. Now mind you this is just personal preference and I am not trying to imply anything about anyone that uses this setup. It all goes back to different strokes for different folks.
