Win Model 94 30-30 load advice
« on: November 29, 2006, 08:26:03 AM »
I have 3 model 94 30-30s. All are post 64. One has a side mount 4x32 Bushnell mounted on it. This is the one I try my handloads with because the scope allows me to better shoot.
I want to know what you guys have had good luck with in the 94 30-30 as far as loads go.

I have Hornady 170gr flat point bullets
Mag and Standard CCI primers
IMR 3031 and 4064
WW748 and 760

I have tried 28gr 3031 and had not so good groups.
I know there are thousands of combinationd with just the small amount of components that I have, so I was hoping y'all could kinda help narrow it down. I dont need max loads as most of the hunting with these guns is done in thickets and short [80yds] openings
Thanks in advance
Jeff

The WW748 should work well in your 30-30. I would suggest 32 to 33 grains but the suggested starting load in the Speer manual is 30 grains so start there and work up to a load that is an accurate load in your gun. Do not exceed the maximum listed load of 34 grains.

Hodgdon, Lyman, Speer, Sierra, Hornady = reliable resources
so and so's pages on the internet = not reliable resources
Alway check loads you find on the internet against manuals.
NEVER exceed maximum listed loads.
