November Sale Price on M70's
« on: November 24, 2006, 06:11:45 AM »
A few days ago there was a limited time ad in the paper for Winchester M70’s with black stock, in 7MM WSM, and .223 WSSM.  The rifles had a Simmons scope on them.  The price was $399.  This was around $180 less then a Remington M700BDL on sale.

I was tempted to run down and buy one in the Win 7MM WSM.  I felt that I could I could stock-up on brass and cover my brass needs for my lifetime.

BUT a few questions come to mind. ???

Are there a lot of unsold low end M70’s setting in warehouses waiting to be sold?

What is the quality of these rifles?  Are they good quality rifles that were caught in the supply chain?

Did the quality of Winchester firearms drop when the employees found out the factory was shutting down?

I thought about gifting one of these rifles but will both rounds be dropped in a few years and they become a reloader only proposition?

I have 2 Winchester Super Shadows, 270 WSM and 300WSM. $400 at WalMart. 1/2" groups, excellent rifles, they have the black plastic(?) stocks.

What do you think of the black stocks and the recoil pads on them"

The 300WSM would be more attractive to me because it fills a gap, where the 7 WSM is very close to my 7 Remington Mag.

Like many I got in on the Model 70 sales that went through the nation. Mine is a 270, plain jane Black Shadow. It's matte black finish doesn't appeal to everyone, but the polished and jeweled bolt is always nice. With some work, I got mine shooting with under 1/2's if I do all I can with the proper handloads and a good bench set up.
Even then, the cheap $10 130gr Federal Power-Shocks shoot amazing in it, as do my buddies identical model 70 Black Shadow in 30-06. It's not perfect, as the stock doesn't fit me very well (lenght of pull)  being a big tall fellow, but the recoil, accuracy, and over all toughness has made me satisfied customer.
Great guns, and it's a good price in my opinion.
