Polishiing Brass Cannon?
« on: December 02, 2006, 08:41:40 AM »
I just wondered what you cannoneers use to get your brass/brone cannon to shine. I've got a few ranging from small to large. I've kept them very clean so there's no green or other problems. They're just getting dull and less shiny where the BP has gone. I've used Brasso for small items like brass button but never on a large scale.

Grab a can of "Never Dull" it is a sort of cotton ., it polishes brass or bronze equally well and fast. Works good on copper too.

The only brass/bronze cannons I've polished were out in front of the OC Battalion HQ when I was in OCS at Fort Sill.  OF COURSE the standard polish was brasso.  They got polished EVERY day.

And, I imagine, all of the sharp corners had been rounded off a long time ago.

I remember McNair Hall from a distance.  The OC Battalion was about a mile from there.  We only had a couple of brass tubes set into concrete.  Both about 4' long.  That was a little over 3 decades ago.  THANKS for posting the pix, though.
