Terminal effectiveness of 295 Grain aerotip powerbelts
« on: November 29, 2006, 10:21:19 AM »
I am using my NEF Sidekick to hunt next week.  The only load that I have shot out of it is the 295 Grain aerotip with 3 pyrodex pellets and winchester 209 primers.  It is accurate at 50 yards with open sights.  I have read mixed reviews on the terminal effectiveness of the powerbelts, however.  How well do they work on deer?
Who are you going to believe, me or your own eyes? :)

don't know about the areo tips, but I shoot the 295gr hollow points. same load as you, 150grs Pyrodex. This combo is deadly on deer out to 100yds. Hit 'em in the right spot and it put's them down in their tracks.

The terminal effectiveness for me over the last 5 years on bucks, similar load, 10 feet to 80 yards is the same= dead in tracks!

My nephew just took his first deer with a 245 gr Powerbelt over two pyrodex pellets.  40 yard shot through the shoulder, shattered the shoulder, took out the heart and the bone frags from the shoulder shredded the lungs.  The bullet was recovered under the offside shoulder nicely mushroomed and very intact.

245gr Powerbilt ahead of 150grs APP one shot two deer bullet passed thru first and hit second complete pass thru as well. First deer went appx 200yds and needed another shot to finish.
Second deer wasnt recovered until the following day appx 1/2 miles away and was still alive both deer where hit thru the ribs with no sign of the bullet expanding. Very little internal damage to either deer. IMHO they stink.

Hi buddy, I am sure you meant to say "they stink" right? What you said must mave been a typo. Remember we want to keep this site so our wives or daughters could look at it at any time. Thanks in advance for the correction/deletion of the obsene vernacular terminology. Merry Christmas....<><.... :)

Thanks for all the replies guys, but I think I'm going to go with 250 grain shockwaves over two pyrodex pellets.  That has proven to be an accurate load out of my Sidekick.
