went to the range today after graybeards terrorists attack with some barrels i have yet to shoot first a 41mag contender i put a t/c scope on it
about 12 rounds later i was almost touching holes in three shot groups ...first time with a 41 and i like it far better than my 357 or 44..

second barrel a 454 for my encore i have read alot about this round here on GB and i was a little scared to shoot it at first but first shot and my arm did not fly off i realized it was not much more than my 15" 30-06 just a little more back kick than up ..i have no scope yet but the iron sights are good for now ....my groups were not great but i think it was the scarey 454 playing head games...

I DO HAVE ONE QUESTION ....WHAT ARE THE DO'S AND DONT'S ON USING THE 45LC IN THE 454 BARREL?

What distance were you shooting your .41 at? What loads have you used so far? Nice caliber isn't it? Can you tell I'm working on one right now?

The cons are the possibility of "ringing" your chamber because of residue build-up from the shorter cartridge. Easily cured with some elbow grease,a slighter larger than caliber chamber brush,and some good solvent. I would think a .480 diameter bore brush would be about right.
The pros are a lighter round to practice with..possibly cheaper plinking rounds..and the availability of .45 LC shot loads for snakes and other pest.

Hey,buckenbass I have a 15" '06 have you tried some 150gr Barnes XLC's. I have and they group 1" and under @ 100yrds. Should be a good load for bear and elk. The load I tested was 58grs of IMR 4350. Or try some 150 gr MBT's with 58 grs of IMR 4350. They group one ragged hole at 100 yrds for me. Let me know what loads you have tried.

with the 41mag i sighted the scope i a 50 yards using factory ammo 210gr rem express..on the bench.
then i came back to 25 yards off hand with to same results
both 454 and the 41mag

i have all the stuff to reload but as a new family man my ametur reloads have been just as good as good factory ammo so not having enough time to test loads i stick with factory..untill my girls get in school

on my 30-06 i use winchester 180gr failsafe ammo on the bench my groups are all under a inch at 100 ....from my shooting stick or a tree about 3 inch

all my barrels are factory or fox ridge and i never as of yet had a problem but i did have a problem on my 30-06 when i switched to senthic forend fixed that by floating the forend
