Bulk 22cal bullets

I've been looking at the 22cal bulk bullets from hornady,remington,and winchester.Thinking of trying one of them in 50gr in my 223 mostly to shoot under 100 yards for plinking.Maybe the softpoints  for varmints.Anyone here use them and how good do they shoot?Really hate to buy 500-1000 and not get them to shoot under a couple inches at 100.

Don't overlook the Speer 50 grain TNT. This is a super accurate bullet in every gun I've tried it in. It's a fantastic prairie dog bullet. Costs are lower than most. You can buy a small box to try them out, then if you like them, buy a 1000-pack. I use them in 223 and in 221 fire ball.  I have tried over a dozen bullets of the same purpose and weight and this is the best of them.

I have used both the Hornady and the Rem bulk bullets.  Both of them shoot a lot better than the price would indicate.  When you're loading up for a Pdog shoot, the diffence in price between the bulk bullets and the high priced spreads can pay for a lot of gas.  I heard that the Midway "dog town" bullets are good too.
Also, the convinence of having a 1000 bullets in one box is worth something.

I've heard just the opposite on the Dogtown bullets from Midway. We've had a couple of members in the past buy them and try to give them away for cost of shipping and got no takers. Complaints were they just plain won't shoot. Me I dunno, never tried them.

The info on the Speer TNT is dead on tho, they are very accurate and pretty low cost. Some of the RP bullets are fine but I've never been able to make their Plated ones, forget the name right now shoot nor the ones with the cannelure. The Hornady's do great especially the V-Max. I've pretty much settled tho on using V-Max and Nosler BTs for varmints and leave the others alone.

Why would you think they'd be any different than the bullet's you buy in the store? Have any of you been thru a bullet plant? I've been thru Nosler and Hornady. All the bullet's come off the same machines. If a machine get's out of adjustment, they stop the machine and re-adjust it. Nobody say's "ah hell. Lets just run off a bunch of bulk pack bullet's". Nosler sells seconds thru their store in Bend at the plant. You can't tell the difference between them and the one's you get at the Sportsmens Warehouse. Bulk bullets can be a bit cheaper because of the lack of extra packageing and handling. Nosler seconds don't come in a box, they are in a plastic bag with a sticker on it. They don't go into shipping, they go right out to the store, about 50'.

I don't know about others experiance, but in both my 223's the 50gr Midway DogTown bullets have been shooting very good over Varget.  But thats the only caliber I have used them in too, so...

Now Don,I bet most of us on here have not been thru a bullet plant!Of course they come off the same machine,after they adjust or when starting a different bullet they start running and adjusting,and thats where my question came from,let me explian.About 10 years ago I bought bullk 30cal remington & winchester bullets,you could tell they were from when they were adjusting the dies as the cannelures were all over the place,and even the noses were different on some.They didn't shoot any better than they looked as never got them under 2 1/2-3 inches.Just wanted to know if the 22cal were any better.By the way,always wanted to go thru a plant,bet I would weigh more going out then when I went in.

The bulk Remington .224" bullets shoot very good. I've loaded tons of them in 223's, and 22-250's, and have always gotten very consistant performance both with accuracy, and on the terminal end.

I'll have to go with Graybeard on this one as I always "settle" on the most consistent bullet at the range ... and for my .223's it was the 55 gr Nosler BT and the 55 gr V-MAX in my Savage 10 FP. In my Handi 22" HB .223, I shoot the 50 gr Nosler BT. What I do not know from experience, is prairie dog shooting as I have never been. A friend of mine went last year and I forget the exact number of shots he took but it was near 700 or 750. Buying that number of Noslers or Hornadys would be a small fortune to some. I buy in 250 count packs for my volume of shooting coyotes and paper.
