best muzzleloader?

Well I do! I've never bash a brand in my life! But to me a White is hard to beat. Very true barrels! Full stock! Great adjustable trigger! And will shoot any thing from sabot loads to heavy conicals. With out swabing between rounds I mind you! OH! Can I say, with very little recoil felt! But Hey! Them Encore or OK!

One Big Time Big Game Rifle! Even thou they're not a big production high market rifle! White's are truely one Muzzleloader to behold!

I'd get the Savage or the Omega.  Probably the Savage.

Better get the Omega! I had a Savage. Good gun but very tempermental on loads,temp,bullets,ect. And possibly the worst M/L to clean the action/breech plug on. But you really didn't have to clean it,when done shooting,(if your the kind of person that can put a gun up dirty,I'm not). So it really didn't make much diffrence to me,which gun I shot,but it did when clean up time came around!

I think most are plenty accurate in hunting situations. I’ve hunted with a $60 sidelock Mountain Hunter and it shot pretty good for a very inexpensive muzzleloader. Simple, light, sights aren’t that good but useable. I also like my Traditions Deer Hunter flintlock. Shoots great, has nice sights and costs less than $200. My TC Omega shoots great, it’s built like a tank and with a scope weighs about as much. The Omega would be my choice for any long range hunting or muzzleloading hunting in inclement weather. But just about any modern muzzleloader should give good results.

They are tempermental. But, the research has been done. Go to one of the Savage web sites and shoot a well tested load and you will shoot 1 1/2 inch groups right out of the box, like I did. That was with one of the classic Savage loads, 43 grains of VihtaVouri N110 and the 250 XTP.
I never have cleaned another inline, so I don't know how they compare in that category. But, since you don't have to clean the Savage after shooting, the ease of cleaning is a major strong point. It is the reason why I bought a Savage.

Thanks for all the great input folks. Didn't mean to get people riled up. Guess I should have realized it would be a controversial topic! I looked at all the suggestions people made. I guess it boils down to what works for you. Although it wasn't mentioned in this post, I ended up going with a Knight DISC Elite. It's got the black composite stock and ss barrel. Paid $310 with shipping. It should be here soon. I read good things about the Elite. (Hopefully they're true! ) LOL! Considering they're discontinued, new ones are few and far between. I would have preferred a camo/thumbhole stock but I figure for that price if I have to compromise it's okay. I just bought a Nikon Omega 3-9x40 Muzzleload Rifle Scope Blk to go with it for $240 shipped. I need some help with the mounting however. This will be my first scope mounting as well. I'm assuming base/rings are separate and I've read that if not done right it can screw things up.  If anyone has suggestions for mount (products) and the proper procedure, I'd love to hear them. I really wanted an Encore pro hunter/camo/ss/thumbhole, but $800 is too pricey for me right now. I'll start with this and hopefully the ph will come down in price after awhile.

I have the disc elite & am pretty happy w/ it. Kind of a pain to clean though & I might look at a break action or omega next year.  Mike
