cilinder movement
« on: December 19, 2006, 01:16:18 PM »
When my FA 454 was new it was rock solid.
now after shooting some loads through it there is some play when I press the cilinder to the front and rear and when trying to turn it
Play is minimal not like a Ruger but should i be worried. I haven't shot very hot loads pressure wise. (never had a sticky case) but have shot heavy bullet loads in it ( 300, 360 and even 420 grain bullets)
Is this normal wearing in or is it real damage ?

If you are really concerned about the matter then ship it off to FA and ask them to assess the situation and make any repairs necessary.  Them's good folk and they'll treat ya right.

I don’t fully understand your explanation.

Be sure to keep a small dab of grease on the base pin where it enters the receiver on each end. Also drop a few drops of oil into the action and down each side of the hammer and trigger and work it some.

I’ve had side to side play in my cylinders before because I allowed the action to get dry and the cylinder stop wasn’t seating fully into the cylinder notches.

Also for the front to end play the grease helps prevent metal banging against each other during recoil, giving it a cushion. The oil and grease coating also takes up room and should tighten things up a little bit.

TScotto,
I think you have a point there.
put some lube on it and the play was almost elliminated.
Thanks for the tip
