Yugo 24/47 Mauser

Just got to try my new toy today.  Wife bought me a 24/47 Mauser from J & G Sales for my birthday (along with two spam cans of Romanian surplus).  The ad said matching serial #'s on bolt and receiver and very good condition.  Well, to my surprise it had matching #'s on everything, bolt, receiver, floorplate and stock (stock and handguard too).  Took it to the range today with some of the Romanian light ball surplus.  The gun is a shooter.  Even with those awful Mauser sights and my forty-five year old eyes, I managed a 1 1/2" five shot group off the bench at fifty yards.  About as accurate as either of my K31's, but really just limited to my ability with the iron sights.  Don't know which would win with a good scope on board.  Oh, and by the way, J & G Sales said very good condition - gun is at least that (I may not even refinish this stock.

Just curious, are the numbers on the metal parts stenciled or stamped?  You probably know this already but they should be stamped, not stenciled if they are true matching numbers.  I think the 24/47's are a great buy.

I have 2 of them.  One has matching numbers and one doesn't.  They both shoot equally well.

A lot of people think a K31 will shoot rings around an 8MM Mauser but I have shot better groups with my K98 so far than I have with either of my K31's.

I ordered me another K98 from the recent listing from AIM.  Today is Monday, I hope to hear that UPS truck pull up.

I haven't shot any of the  Romanian surplus but I do have a lot of the Yugoslavian 70's surplus left I bought a long time ago and it does exceptionally well out of all my Mauser's.

Jack, the numbers are stamped.  The only stencilled numbers are the importer's marks and what appears to be an importer's serial number (on the receiver only).  The only number that might be questionable is the one on the inside of the handguard, which appears to be marker or paint and not stamped liked the one on the stock.  I am really pleased by the rifle, condition, numbers and accuracy.

about 6 months ago I bought a 24/47 at a local gun show which was in execellent condition. Removed packing grease, sanded and lindseed oil stock, took it to the range. Shot at 50 yards with PMC ammo and after adjusting the front sight was shooting 2 inch groups. Moved out to 100 yards and was shooting 3-4 inch groups. Not bad for (ugh) 63 year old eyes.
