TICKLED
« on: December 02, 2006, 05:36:25 PM »
11 months ago i bought a new NEF ultra in 223.since then i have tried every trick on the internet,8 different factory loads, close to 100 different handloads,3 different scopes,2 different stock/forearm sets, virtually any and everything.btw- i'm no stranger to firearms.
the very best that the rifle would do was 3" @ 50---yes 50 yds. finally, i had had enough.i traded for a new T/C Encore 22-250,24" blued bbl and black composite stock. today it shot under 3/4" @ 100 yds with winchester white box 45 gr.jhp. hoorah, just wait til i get some reloads worked up.

all i can say is: FREE AT LAST,FREE AT LAST, THANK GOD I'M NEF FREE AT LAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What happened to the all-bullets-touching 5-shot groups you were excited about it February? ???

after much hand-ringing and walking & talking to myself,i finally found a load that my 223 ultra excels with. all loads that i previously tried shot 3" or worse @ 100 yds, with major vertical stringing. but no more.
my new pet load is;    28.0 grs of AA2230 behind a hornady 50 gr V-max and a CCI 450 magnum primer. several 5 shot groups-all bullets touching in each group and no vertical stringing.
look out song-dogs,here i come.

the gun did shoot great for about 5 boxes, then the accuacy went sour.its as if the barrel was shot out. i was very disappointed overall in this gun.the fit,the finish, the accuracy-you name it.tweaking and fine tuning is ok but i would rather not spend that much time tinkering on a rifle.i'd rather spend it hunting or shooting more accurately.judging by the nef forums-its rare to take one out of the box and get any kind of decent service.to me ,nef is the yugo of guns.

factory white box win 45 gr. hp. The best out of 16 inch 1-9 DPMS bbl AR-15 .330 100 yards 14.99 box, cash is not everything. This is the best factory load I have found. Short Bbl slow twist. I would like to build a 24 or 28 inch rig so I am going to try 1-8 any info?
