Well, I just received my 1000 rounds of 308 cal., 150 grain round nose jacketed soft point bullets. How many of those have I shot in over 30 years. At my age, I will probably never have to buy bullets for my Winchester Model 94 3030 again. The rifle was bought new in 1957 or 58 by my Dad, and he took it hunting one time. He decided he didn't want to hunt. In 1970 at the age of 20 I was given the rifle, and the box of ammo that came with it. It looked like new. Well, 36 years later, Dad died 2 months ago, the rifle doesn't look new anymore, and I can hit a 1 gallon jug of water with it a 270 yards almost every time. I carried it in a patrol car for 20 years, carried it on man hunts along the red river, on the Tx AND Ok side, and have newspaper clippings of me carrying it working as a tracker on one of those manhunts. Lots of memories and hopefully more to come. Me and my 3030 retired from L.E. 13 years ago.
As I get older, my 25-06 almost never comes out of the safe, my AR15 gets shot very little, and my Model 92 Winchester 357mag. clone and my Model 94 3030 are even doing the predator hunting chores.
I think the old 94 will most likely outlast me easy, and still shoot straight. And, don't you feel like your carrying what a rifle otta feel like when your sitting in the woods in front of a fire with one in your lap waiting on the coffee to boil? Man, they don't make'um like that anymore. Too bad. Every scratch has a memory, and my own hand wore the bluing off. Wonder if my boys will think of that? In some ways it's like having an old friend. Shoot, I guess it is an old friend!
