lets hear it
« on: December 13, 2006, 10:36:34 AM »
Lets hear from people that got deer this year. Did you see many deer?  I hit a buck early opening morning. Like a fool i started right out following the blood trail. I pushed it to a guy in a tree stand and he killed it. About an hour later i saw two does but couldn't get a shot. About 11:00  the tree stand guy headed out. He licked out a big doe that i shot.

I got a spike buck on opening morning in Delaware county.  My uncle got a 3 point the day after Thanksgiving.  Didn't see too many does, but then again I am never run over by deer where I hunt.  I guess one could argue that we should have seen more does since this is the second straight year that no doe permits are being issued in this unit.  I just hope they do not put antler restrictions into effect in my area like they have in a few other regions in the Catskills.  Just a ridiculous rule in my opinion.  Wouldn't be too many reasons to hunt if they did.

I was very fortunate to get a nice 10 point at about 3:45pm on opening day of the southern zone gun season. It has a 16 inch inside spread with 6.5 inch G2's and weighed about 170 lbs. I also shot a very nice doe on the first thursday of gun season but since my freeze was full I decided to give it to my neighbor. He has a large family and never lets any bit of the meat go to waste so it gave me a chance to get out and hunt some more while putting the meat to good use.

I was fortunate to hunt in three states this year.(NY, PA, Il) I took four deer, including my first with a bow. That was the sweetest, for me.  No huge bucks to write home about, but I saw quite a few monsters in Il, out of range. My buddy came to my place from PA and killed the buck of his life on our place.  I could not ask for anything more.  Lots of meat in the freezer, and plenty of memories.

I'm new to this site. I live in Greig, NY. Had a good season. One doe with M/L and a nice spike with rifle.

Saw a fair number of deer this season. Definitely had to work harder to find them as compared to a few years ago, but that's how it should be. I think that in most places (at least the areas where I hunt) the deer population is back to a more stable number that is in sync with habitat. Took a spike with bow late in the archery season (in Dutchess county), and then a nice doe with the smokepole the day after Thanksgiving (in Otsego County).
