Sights/mounts on 94
« on: December 18, 2006, 12:43:51 PM »
I have a Winchester mod. 94 (no. 3968697).

When I bought it - there was no rear sight assembly on it.

Where can I buy sights?
What kind of mounts for a scope - do I have to buy - and where (if I should mount a scope on it)?

Sverrre:  take a good look at the barrel to the rear of the rear sight notch.  If there is a small 'wear' site about 2" behind the notch then the rifle probably came with a ladder type sight.  If no wear mark then probably the newer type adjustable blade sight.

Whatever the situation, look to the Brownells catalog as they will have the type of replacement you would need.  They are on the net at www.Brownells.com and so is their catalog.  HTH.  Mikey.

Your Winchester Model 94 serial # 3968697 was manufactured in 1974. Unless it was a special order, it had a standard semi-buckhorn rear sight, and bead front sight. I have a 50 year old Model 94 bought new, and highly recommend a Lyman receiver sight, and a white stripe, post front sight. Have been using this sight combo on this rifle and a Model 92 for years. I am able to consistantly hit gallon water jugs at 270 yards with a common 150 grain soft point. As far as a scope mount for you Model 94 (YUK!!!!!!), I would look into the scout scope arangement if you must. The Lyman can be purchased at Mid-south, Mid-way and others. ;)
