Encore question
« on: December 10, 2006, 06:03:32 PM »
I have owned contenders for almost 20 years. Now I am looking at some rifle cartridges as well as  either a 500SW or 460SW. The contender from what I have found- will not handle these rounds, so now the ENCORE. Does the encore operate in the same fashion as the contender? Is the Encore alot bigger then a Contender?  What is the difference between a ENCORE and a  hunter Encore?

Yes the Encore is bigger than the contender but operates under the same principle.

What is the difference between the Hunter Encore & the regular encore & is it worth the extra money?

The Encore hunter package comes with everything you need to hunt. The gun is scoped and ready to go. With the regular Encore, you have to buy the mount, rings and scope. It is more of what you personally like. Me I would rather fix the gun up myself. I did not buy the hunter package, so I could not tell you if it was worth it or not.

The package is described on the bottom of the T/C site.

The encore is heaver and for some doesn't feel as well balanced. I personally prefer the encore over my older contender. With the encore if you want a rim fire you will have to go custom and get an offset firing pin or an offset barrel.
The encore is better for a person that doesn't hand load you can get high performance rounds off the shelf like the 308, 30-06 and others for the contender to get the best out of it you should hand load.

If you want what T/C thanks you need then get the hunter package it could save you some money and time, but If you don't like what is on the package then buy just the encore and get what YOU think you need and if you watch the huntinghandgun bored you can get so real good deals a lot better then off ebay

A couple of things here. As said previously, the Encore is slightly larger and heavier but with that extra size comes a whole lot of options when it comes to catridges you can choose from.  The Contender is regulated to relatively low pressure rounds, think 30-30, 45-70 and most pistol rounds.  The Encore can shoot all of those plus any high pressure round up to the head size and pressure level of a 300 Win Mag.

Now are you talking about the Encore Hunter Package or are you thinking about the "new" Pro Hunter model?  THe package is just that, complete gun with scope mounted.  The Pro Hunter comes with a heavey fluted SS barrel and the hammer can be angle to the side so you can cock it easily if it is scoped.  It also has the TC logo on it and the new/better Flex Tech stock.  I think the new stock is a huge improvement over the original.

I was talking about the Pro Hunter pkg for the pistol. I take it the Encore is just like the Contender in that if I buy the Encore pistol- I can but a barrel & stock & make it into a rifle- correct?

In that aspect, it is just like the Contender.
