Latch Engagment Fix
« on: December 08, 2006, 06:02:10 PM »
I couldn't find any info on latch engagment in the FAQ. Quick, can you please point me in the right direction? My new Handi's latch does not come full forward with the barrel locked and I want to adjust it. Does the latch have to be full forward if lock-up is otherwise tight?  It does lock-up tight as a bank vault but the latch is definitely not full forward. Advice please.( As a matter of fact my old Handi latch doesn't come full forward either but again it locks up tight).

Thanks

The latch shouldn't be all the way forward on the latch shelf, somewhere a bit more than 1/16" will work best, if it's all the way forward at the end of the latch travel, it may not be locked up tight. See the barrel fitting instructions in the FAQs. I'd say about .070"-.080" would be ideal. Just degrease the latch and shelf, then smoke it, or use Fred's wife's lipstick  :D and lock it up and see how much engagement there is, use a stone to increase it or make it even all the way across if needed, but don't over do it, or it will be loose.
