.45-100, recommended twist rates

Gents and Madams,

Any recommendations from personal experience as to most desirable twist rates that can be used in rifles chambered for .45-100 (Sharps 2.6").

Any reason why an existing 1-18" twist (rechamber) will NOT be appropriate?

Objective is distance shooting out to 1000 yards/meters.

Bullet most likely will weigh 535 to 550 grains.

I may be wrong but I have yet to see or hear of a 45-100 in any other twist rate.  ALL the shooters that I know that have the 45-100 are 1:18 twist.

I could be wrong though.  :roll:

Windcutter--The 1-18 twist is the way to go in a 45.  I have a 45-90 in 1-20, and a couple in 1-18.  Beyond 800 yards the 1-18 consistently groups noticeably better than the 1-20.  Out to 600 yards the difference is there, but it doesn't seem to be as pronounced.

Rechambering an existing 1-18 to a longer cartridge is the easiest route to take.  Shoot straight, rdnck.
