I feel very lucky, I have lived around the world and never experienced this.  My vehicles have been broken into several times, minor things taken, but nothing serious.  One time I had cashed a check for teo hundred dollars, put the money on the check book, and them placed it above the sun vissor.  Who ever broke in the vehicle only took a container full of tapes, never touched the checkbook and money.  Two days later I found the tapes, they had looked them over and must not have liked old country music, sos they threw the tapes in some bushes downw the street from my house.

My son has been broken into several times, and he lives nearby, once while he was in the bed asleep.  They went into his bedroom and stole his wallet, my daughter-in-law's purse, and then left.  Neither of the two awoke, and the dogs did not bark.  Course, my daughter-in-laws whips the dogs when they bark, and had complained when mine do bark.  I told her they were just doing their job, and if sshe had not traained her's not to bark most likely they would have woke them up.

As I understand it, being broken in to is about like a women being violated, you just never have a secure sense about you again, and will always be on your toe in the future.

That is scary about not waking up. My wife is handicapped and has to sleep on the ground floor. I work crazy shifts and wander in all times of the night. She rarely hears me.

The pit bull sleeps with her but he doesn't wake up either. He is wide awake during the day though barking at all the liittle old ladies walking by all hunched over from scoliosis.

Not to make light of it I hope I don't have to use extreme force with an intruder. We have some obvious losers across the street. The cop's are there weekly. I make the call myself quarterly.

I got two Beagles, they go off as soon as someone steps into the drive.  If someone comes in from the back they hear them when the get onto the lawn in back.  The lawn goes about 20 yards completely around the house.  How they know that something is out there I don't know, but they do.

We've only had one break-in, it was before we got the dogs.  I was gone out to one of the Villages, and the wife was home alone.  She was upstairs in bed, when she heard something downstairs.  She got up, grabbed her Mossburg 12ga, and walked out onto the balcony.  She saw a man down in the kitchen, so she jacked a shell into the chamber.  At the sound the guy turned and raised his arm, and it looked like he was pointing something at her.  She fired, messed up a big area of the counter top.  The guy screamed, ran right through the glass door going outside, holding his groin area.  Her second shot rolled him across the deck.  He jumped up and disappeared.

The Troopers found him at the hospital later that day, having bird shot (#9s) removed from both the front and back of his legs and his genitals.  Her first shot had mostly hit the counter, but the outer shot in her pattern had hit him low.  The guy was very lucky, she normally keeps #4 Buck Shot in her shot gun.  We had been out hunting grouse a few days before and she had forgot to change from the birdshot.  When asked about what he was pointing at her he said he did not have a gun.  The Troopers and my wife felt that was his lawyer speaking.  Anyway several years later while clearing brush in the area he had fled through, I found a rusted pistol lying on the ground in some brush.  It was so rusted I could not find any serial numbers or make.  The grips had been chewed by rodents.  I turned it over to the Troopers, told them where I thought it had come from.  That's the last we heard about the incident.  Burgaleries stopped in the area after that anyway.  Word got out.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I like the part where he screamed running through the glass door. It would be interesting to know whatever happened to this loser. If the experience set him straight...etcetera. I wouldn't think fellow inmates in the joint would give him much respect having been shot in the gonads with a shotgun by a woman. I can think of a few nick names.

One winter night I grabbed a kid prying off hood ornaments on cars in my neighborhood. I grabbed him a block away so he had no idea where I lived. I took the pliers out of his back pocket as asked him if he would like a few teeth pulled out. He screamed like a little girl for his buddy to, "Call the cops." I kept his pliers and let him go.

When I got back in the house I called a friend who who came up and we took up their trail in the fresh inch of snow.  We followed them for a good mile as they wandered through back yards seemingly aimless. Then they got their courage back up and began vandalizing cars again. We didn't catch up to them but we did find out where they lived.

I should have called the cops, but having grabbed the kid and threatened to pull a few teeth out we know what would have been the outcome.

Sourdough sounds like your wife didn't have any legal problems after protecting her life. It put a smile on my face this morning hearing about a good guy (gal) winning instead of the vermin, scum, that pillage and rape, leaving years of mental anquish for the poor victims to deal with.

Two cases of "rehabilitative therapy", and without any prolonged, expensive process either.

POLITICIANS SHOULD BE LIMITED TO TWO TERMS - ONE IN OFFICE AND ONE IN PRISON.... Illinois already does this.
