Docter red dot on a revolver for hunting?

I know it's popular in the IPSC circle and I am intersted in trying on for my S&W 657 41 mag for hunting
I don't really want to try a scope, and have used red dots on pistols before
a cheap reflex style and a tube (1") type
I much prefered the open sight view of the reflex type

I know it won't gather light like a scope and a scope would be better for rested long shots
but within say 60 yards or so, I think it would be ideal
the Docter is small and light and by all accounts is well made
I have located a clone of one that is backed by a US distributor that I have spoken with on the phone and feel comfortable dealing with...

I may at some point try a scope, but would rather try this route first

3.5 MOA dot means it's going to cover just under 2" at 50 so, that should work well for hunting deer and hogs

just looking to see if anyone here has any first hand experience with one

I also looked at the Jpoint but like the metal/glass construction of the Docter sight better

I am also considering an ultra dot, have never heard anything bad about them and they have a lifetime warranty

i also bought a doctor sight to put on my 6 inch 454 , the dot was always to bright ,for the lighting condtions and had dot flair from being to bright which bothered me.   i sent it back and they sent me a brand new newest generation sight which has the same problem , i sold it!   im now loking at the new burris fast fire at $ 199.00  which includes a weaver base , and the pride /fowler special ops sight at $325.00 +  about $50.00 for the weaver style base which are like the doctor sight.but it has a on /off switch + a full bright postion .     i have had various aimpoint comp xd sights mounted on my 454,s with years of complet satisfaction but i wanted the 6 inch to be as light and compact as possible with a red dot installed,   at 58 years old !  i cant see the sights correctly any more unless i use a apature sight disc which is usless for hunting.     bob

what you described is one of the things I am nervous about on the "auto sensing" units and what is pushing me towards the Ultradot with the 30mm tube.  Having the ability to fine tune what I need for given light conditions. I am thinking more and more that the autosensing reflex are perhaps better suited to IPSC style shooting (and may get one for my 1911) where me and the target are likely in the same lighting.. now hunting, I may be in a blind, the deer/hog under a tree in shadows, whatever...
and the abiliy to dial in exactly what I want is appealing
leaning very heavily towards the matchdot with the 2, 4, 6 and 8 MOA dots
still pretty compact, more so than an aimpoint and more so than a scope...

and by all accounts, they stand up to heavy recoil fine
I am also thinking about using a leupold one piece base with the lowest turn in rings I can possibly get to keep it nice and tight

I have a bushnell Holosight on my SRH, and it works great. I've been wondering about the Red Dots, 'specially the one with the 2 power sight.

I have used Docter with a 3.5 MOA on a revolver - hunting for antilopes and buffalo - and will not return back to scopes and Aimpoints!

I have also spent a lot of time with a Doctor - also with 3.5 MOA - on my submachinegun - and will not return back to Aimpoint!

As you understand - I`m very satisfied with the Docter
