weatherby mark v trigger

I've got a Weatherby Mark V stainless/synthetic.  The trigger is at 3#'s but seems a little stiff.  I am not sure how to describe it, but after shooting my Sako and Tikka, there is a hugh difference in the trigger pull. the Finnish rifles almost surprise me when they go off but the Weatherby requires much more concentration  My gunsmith says there is not much you can do with the Weatherby trigger.  Is this true?  Do I have to have the trigger replaced to get a smoother pull?  :?

I haven't done a lot of work on the weatherby's but the diagrams indicate there is no sear engagement adjustment though there is a trigger stop adjustment and a trigger spring tension adjustment screw.  There are 3 facets of a trigger pull that affect shootability; pull weight, over travel, and creep (takeup, slack).  If the trigger pull weight measured correctly on a trigger pull scale is 3# it is about as low as is practicable, although your trigger does have an adjustment screw for pull weight.  Too light a pull is difficult to control with cold numbed hands of with gloves on.  I usually reccommmend no setting lower than this on a hunting rifle.  Creep is movement of the trigger before the sear releases.  This is set by the sear engagement.  With no screw adjustment a gunsmith would have to adjust this manually by removing metal from the engagement surfaces.  Over travel is the movement of the trigger AFTER the sear has released.  This can be remove by adjustments on your trigger.  Perhaps you can clarify your problem with the triggerpull using this info...What pull weights do your other rifles have??  good luck from the gunnut69
