More G2 questions
« on: December 21, 2006, 05:28:12 AM »
I am going to get a new G2 handgun in the near future, after I see what Santa has coming ;D, and I am wondering if they can be converted to the swing hammer of the Pro Hunter series?  Seems I read a post somewhere that mentioned it could.

Are the JDJ rounds like the 375 and 358 JDJ built for Contender pressures?  I seriously doubt I'd ever use those in handgun form ( I hate pain) but adding a rifle barrel and stock might give it a new purpose in life.

Are there any issues the Contender has, that a new buyer should be aware of?  I'm very familiar with the NEF Handirifles (hense the name ;D) and their accuracy issues, do the Contenders share those same issues?

What about reliablilty issues and case ejection?  Does the TC use ejectors or extractors?

How about rimfire use of the G2, are they accurate and reliable there too?

I can't help with a couple of your questons but I bet you get good answers to those as well.  Here goes with what I know:

"Are there any issues the Contender has, that a new buyer should be aware of? "  Other than some of the triggers in the G2s aren't the best I know of none.  I apparently got lucky with two G2s that came with good triggers, but they aren't hard to improve with instructions on the internet, and lots of folks willing to do a trigger job for a good price.

"What about reliablilty issues and case ejection? " G-2s extract, not eject.  I have never had a problem with that.  It is a simple mechanism and quite reliable.  I have never had any type of trouble with either of my G2s.  My original Contender had some wear issues, but it is quite old.

"How about rimfire use of the G2, are they accurate and reliable there too?"  I have pistol and carbine barrels for my Contenders (I include the G2s) and they are great.  A simple switch of a lever on the hammer and they are good to go.  And one of my carbine barrels is spooky accurate: 17M2 that shoots one hole groups as long as I do my part.

I hope you like yours as much as I do mine!

The JDJs that are based on the .225 Winchester and the 444 Marlin cases were designed for the Contender.  This includes the 375 and 358 JDJ.  As far as any issues go, my G2 is my favorite rifle ( I have the carbine with 23" barrel).  No issues, and the best out of the box trigger I have ever been in contact with.

I've used both .358 JDJ and .375 JDJ in pistol and rifle configurations with regular contender frames and have have not had any problems. I recently switched to using these calibers in both configurations on a G2 frame and all is well. Go for it and enjoy!

I own 2 G2's, a carbine and a pistol.  It was how I started with T/C's and I'm totally hooked.  Both shoot great as long as I do my part.  I think the triggers are fine, but I haven't had any experience with the older Contenders either.  Go for it.

Great, all sounds like what I was hoping to hear.

I'm seeing new G2 frame stock setups on the net for $270, in blue form.  Does this sound reasonable to you guys?   It does to me, but I want to call the local shops first.  Usually they are VERY high.  One wants $525 for a used one, but it looked new, with a red dot scope on it.  I wasnt sure if it's an original contender or a G2.  I know what to look for now though and will have to ask tomorrow.

I figure I'd be into about $540-560 for a new frame and barrel.

Oh yes, one more question.  Does the G2 pistol, come in stainless?

The stock setup seems right, but everything has been going up with the cost of fuel etc.  They just started making the G2 in stainless, but I haven't seen any at the stores yet.  I'm sure those will be more expensive.

 Don't remeber the cost difference.
