I will give you some advise from someone that has been shooting for 50 years or more and reloading for 40 years, Never ever take any loads given by me or anyone else as good loads. Always check your reloading manuals to see if the loads are, or are not recomended. My 14-1/2" max loves W-296 powder, I shoot 22.0 grains with a 180 grain Hornady, according to Thompsons reloading manuals, the Max is 21.0 grains. I really feel the book recommends loads a little on the light side. And this load shows no sign of pressure. But you have to deciede what will be your load. But you can not go wrong with W-296, it is also the powder of choice with others as well. Good Luck and safe shooting. Lou

I've taken 4 deer with my 357 Max.  Load is 20.0 gr W296, Remington 7 1/2 small rifle primer, and the 180 Hornady XTP seated on the bottom cannelure.  My TC has a 10" barrel.

14 inch OTT barrel, 22.5 grains of 'Lil Gun, 180 XTP or Hornady SSPB, CCI small rifle primer, 2100fps.  An absolute bomb on deer.  At close range the XTP tends to come apart at this velocity.  The 180 single shot pistol bullet from Hornady is more stoutly constructed and is the bullet I am using now.
