To those of you who responded to my request for advise in a post recently concerning what to do with a 3" x 13" round of bronze
---thanks for your imput. And the decision is---it will become a mortar. Due to both time and equipment restraints, a cannon would be a problem, especially having to also build a carriage---compared to a "block" for a mortar.
Since it is a bit long for a mortar, and a bit short for a cannon, may be I'll call it a "Mor-non" or a "Can-tar" !!
CW: It is just too heavy (at least for me) to be a hand gonne.
GG: It is bored for golf balls, and since I obtained a GB mortar from Kpullen, about a year ago this month, I have hit the flea markets
for a bountiful supply of golf balls. By the way, Kpullen, if you read this post---your mortar has been more fun than the proverbial
"barrell of monkies." 3 grams of BP lobs them about 100 yds high, and they come down to quite a splash in the pond behind our "shooting range" up in Georgia.
DD: Unfortunately I am not acquainted with any welders, exotic or otherwise---another reason a mortar won out.
It's been around a year since I posted with any pictures, but if I can remember how, below will be a picture of several of my recent productions. If the picture transfers, you will see by the location of the touch hole on the larger barrell that I am quite limited, especially in boring, with what I can do. OK picture, come on up.
