Shot four fat Bushy-Tails yesterday!!
« on: December 27, 2006, 03:33:45 PM »
I am ashamed to admit that it's been YEARS since I've gone squirrel hunting...at least 15!
And what's worse, I own and live on 160 acres which are over 70% timber!

I took my Anschutz out yesterday afternoon and had a blast.  I will go out again this weekend and try to get at least 4-5 more.

I send the tails to my cousin in Vancouver, WA...he ties flies for Steelhead fishing.

When I was a young'n I hunted squirrel all the time, well actually, 1/2 the time, the other half was with my beagles hunting Cottontails.

It's been WAY to long.

I'm going to slow cook these fat Fox Squirrels in the crock-pot.  Then de-bone and put the meat in a KILLER "Wild Rice w/Squirrel" casserole.  My wife loves that dish!  Me too.

Good old basic sitting below the tree squirrel hunting...hard to beat it!

Congratulations on rediscovering a great way to have a fun hunt. :)

I'll be going after'em again with my little 32 magnum Single Six this weekend. I can't wait to stalk within range, and knock'em a flip with this little gun. ;D

Jerry,
Go get 'em!  I may take out my Contender (.22 LR) with open sights...fun way to hunt and
not as darn heavy.  My Browning semi-auto .22 is also going to join the fun.

I'm with Casull, we want the recipe!

I love to hunt squirrels. I started when I was just a kid. Actually, a gray squirrel was the very first game I ever took. I'm 53 now, and I still enjoy hunting squirrels as much as anything. I used a shotgun for years, but for the past 25 years or so, I have preferred a good .22 rifle. My current "squirrel rig" is a Kimber Hunter bolt gun with a Burris 3x9 Rimfire scope. BTW, I love to eat squirrels as much as hunting them. I do wish there were fox squirrels in my area. We have lots of grays, though. Now, about that recipe....

Well, I told you I was going after'em this morning! :)

Me, and my uncle got in the woods about 5-10 minutes after good shooting light. The squirrels were holding tight to the nests I guess because we only saw a very few, and shots were from far to too far on the few we did see. It was a beautiful morning, and I'm puzzled as to why they were holed up so bad.

He managed to get one big fox squirrel with his 22 rifle, and I got a big grey at about 30 yards, and another big fox squirrel at 48 long paces with my trusty Single Six 32 magnum. I think it ate him up because I did better with a revolver than he did with a scoped rifle. ;D ;D ;D
