Fisher Trapping

OK guys, little help. I got a fisher tag this year. I've never trapped them nor talked to anybody with any amount of experience. I need anything that will help. What kind of trap, where do they usually hang out, what kind of bait, etc. Thanks in advance!

i don't think this animail gets the attention on this forum like all the other popular ones.  i'm no expert, but i'll try and help.  up in northern minn where i trap the habitat is a mixture of farmland and big woods and where i have had the best luck is right in between the two, i primarly use the 220 bucket set baited with either deer meat or chicken and like to place it near a river or creek bank, you might even catch coon, otter, bobcat etc.   so good luck this year, i have to wait until november to trap them so you got me a little excited.

The 220 bucket cubby is a great set, I have used it for raccoon with excellent results.  THe only fisher I have ever caught was with a 1.5 victor and a cubby set.  I had a dead squirrel in the back of a trench and had heavy branches placed over the trench so the only way in was an opening at the end, I had the trap placed just inside the edge of the brush.  I think the only reason I got him was because I had caught a skunk the day before and the area still stunk quite a bit,  I talked to a few other trappers in the area and they said that fisher really like the skunk attractor scents.  THe most recommended set for fishers in my area was a leaning pole set with a 220 conibear.

I caught my fisher last year with a square bucket and a 160 on the ground in a hardwood forrest. I saw his tracks meadering throu, so I set the trap where I knew he was traveling. I baited it with herring because I ran out of beaver meat. I used Lennon's Fisher All Call. It only took 2 checks to get him, my dad happened to come up and visit me, so he was along when I got him.
