thread pitch question

Does anyone know the thread pitch for the older Topper and Model 088 barrels? Also if anyone has purchased a Survivor "storearm forearm" directly from Chaote and got the 2 different thread attachment screws they reportedly send with those forearms I would like to buy the one from you that did not fit your newer 1/4x20 size forearm lug. I need it to cobble together my temporary home assembled .410 Tamer...Thanks....<><.... :)

OK guys here is the answer, the earlier barrels had a 1/4x28 thread  for the forearm screw. I have been able to get something quite nice to work and have also contacted Choate about getting an issue one from them. The woman I spoke to asked me to call back next Monday and she will do some checking regarding how much to send one of the old thread Survivor forearm screws out to me.  She also checked a package and did confirm that when you purchase a Survivor store arm forearm from them they send out 2 retaining screws, each in a differnt thread. I am sure now that one is 1/4x20 for the newer barrels and the other is the 1/4x28 which is the one I need for an older barrel....<><.... :)

While we're on the subject of thread pitch -- anyone know the pitch of the stock bolt on our NEF guns? The hardware store has the right size bolt, but only in a coarse pitch. The fine machine thread bolts are harder to find. I'm going to try the Fastenal store here in La Crosse at lunch tomorrow, but in the meantime, anyone know the pitch of this bolt?

not off the top of my head but they are easily available in most hardware stores. I buy them for about $1.68 apiece at the hardware store in #5 hardened bolts (4" if I remember correctly). I will try to check some info and get back to you with the thraed size...<><.... :)

db22 I cannot locate that size yet although I have an extra bolt here that I bought just in case I needed one. If you get one be sure you get a washer small enough in OD to fit in the stock hole and also be sure there is a washer between the bolt head and the wood of the stock to protect the wood. I will continue to work on getting you the correct size. If after you get the proper size and dimensions you still cannot locate one let me know and I will send you this one with a washer. I am shocked since every hardware store around here normally stocks the proper size. Also I do not have any "Tractor Supply's" around me but I hear they carry both those bolts and the proper size machine head bolts for the forearms...<><.... :)

MSP Ret: As usual, I spoke too soon. You are exactly right -- a bigger local hardware store had the correct bolt to fit an NEF stock to its frame. The size is 3/8-24x4. If the "24" refers to the thread pitch, I had expected it to be somewhat finer than 24 tpi, but then, what do I know -- I went all through high school without taking a single shop class -- big mistake! 

It's called a hex cap screw, grade 5, fine. So there it is: 99 cents for the bolt, anther 24 cents for a lock washer (they didn't have a flat washer that would fit down the stock hole). Thanks for your concern!

OK buddy and glad it worked out for you. They charge me about $1.68 each plus 5% tax for the same grade 5 bolt here!!!....<><.... :)
