Need ideas for ground blind
« on: January 17, 2007, 08:13:13 AM »
Need some ideas for a ground blind to be used for yote hunting , it needs to be portable enough to move from spot to spot yet strong enough to stand up to wind and snow in NW Ohio .

It does not have to be real big but i don't want something the size of a Yugo either . One more thing it needs to fit the KISS system as far as set-up and tear-down .

Thanks

My "redneck" set-up consists of PVC and burlap.  I even have the option to add a PVC framed garbage bag roof  ;)

The heaviest part is the re-bar stakes I use to keep the stand in place.  I built 2 blinds for somewhere around $10, and the deer don't seem to notice the difference between mine and those $100+ blinds.

Another option I found that works as good as, or better than a blind is a ghillie suit and portable stool.  I bought one of those $30 suits from Wally World, and it works better than I could ever hope for....as long as I don't move too much.  I've had coyotes, deer, fox, and even turkey walk within 10 yards of me, and never even know I was there.

Part of the fun of hunting from a blind....is building the blind.   ;)
The problem with troubleshooting is....sometimes it shoots back!

stimpy. I have an ameristep outhouse pop up that I got for 39.99. I  have used it here in the U.P. of Michigan for several years now and havent had any problems with the wind, rain, or snow. it has its own carrying case with back pack straps built on and is light enough you dont really feel it. it pops open and ready to use in seconds and with some practice folds backs up just as easy.  T.

I have the Outhouse as well. You can't beat it for the money. If you want something really portable you might consider a turkey blind. I have one that folds into a disk about 15" in diameter and unfolds into a three sided groung blind about 30" high. I think it's an Ameristep as well.

stimpy-
did you try that portable blind yet- any luck?
I am thinking about using mine for that same purpose if this weather ever breaks.

I used to use 6 aluminum poles of different lengths with hooks at the top and a light weight camo net.
Make the outline of the top as uneven as possible. And push the poles into the ground at different angles with the netting a little loose and sagging.
Made that way the blind is very hard to pick out from other cover because there isn't any square corner in it.

Know what you mean, but if today was any indication the good weather is on its way.

I purchased one of those Outhouse type blinds from Dicks I believe but took it back because the material was too flimsy, like light nylon.  I bought another one, same design like a teepee, but the manufacturer was Hunters View and had Realtree camo cloth for the material, it may have been Dicks I don't remember. I have used it 3 seasons now and it has held up well. One person only, so if I use it with my wife for turkey season I will sit her on a stool inside it and I can sit behind her but outside the teepee with that door flap open at least partway so I can see if birds are approaching too.
