elephant garlic??

started growin it a few years back now iam hooked , got a good crop off of it this year and even won a local  fair veg contest,  anyone else grow garlic and had good results?  what do you do for monster heads

Shaner,

Excellent topic, and at the right time or year.  Between now and the end of October is when Garlic gets planted for next years crop.  Maybe you can fill us in on your technique for being a Ribbon Winner.

well i already planted next years  crop, in a patch of well drained , soil, plenty of rabbit poopie ,and saw dusty for a mulch, it seems to like this mix, i also worked in a wheelbarrow fill of sand  last year , no real nutrian factor but helped loosen  the ohio clay soil,

  I have not had any luck with any of the garlics in my garden. I dont think I have enough light for it but I am getting to start all over again in a new place, soon. I am curious as what kind of wood dust you used.Was it from under the saw or more like planer chips? do you know what type of wood it was? We all like to know a ribon winners secrets.  D.C.

well i just go outto the local saw mial and  bring it home any kind of hard wood ,dust  from the big saws ,

 your soil sounds close to what is at my moms place. She is a bit north and west of Frankfort in KY. I expect i will be learning how to deal with a clay  instead of a sand base. I all so have rabbits, so the other ingredeant shall be readly available, well thanks again, have a good day.     D.C.

if yu never used rabbit poopie before ur in for a surprise, it wont burn, and  it  really helps , try it on cucumbers also , they love it

  We have been planting garlic (includeing elephant garlic) for over 30 years now.  I'm a believer in useing heavy amounts of compost in our gardens and so i mulch everything in heavily every spring.  Of course it's all "next years" food for the plants after i till it all in each fall...

  Anyway, here's some of the garlic i grew last summer..

sorry i missed yur posts??? thats lookin good,  mine got up bout 6in this fall before the cold got here , never got cold till  january here in ohio , so it got a good start
