Who's Shooting A Sprinfield Mil Spec????

I have an itch for a 1911.  Been wanting one for a long time....... Then I saw the new Springfield GI.... very affordable, and I like the retro-ness of it.  That is, until I handled it, and tried to sight down it......

Wow, the standard GI sights suck.  At least for me..... So now, I'm looking at a Mil Spec with 3 dot combat sights.  Much better sight pic, at least to me.....

My questions are:  Who is shooting one?
                          What are the chances of the sights being on for poi vs poa?
                           
I don't want another gun, that I can't hit the barn with......

Local dealer had a GI stainless a year or two ago, but didn't have any other Springfields for comparison.  I purchased it and loved it except for the sights.  I sent it to Springfield last week, and for $65 plus shipping they are upgrading it to Mil-spec sights.  I kinda wish the dealer would have had a mil-spec in stock to begin with.  :^)   The GI sights were right-on using UMC 230 fmj.  When it comes back, I'll try to answer you about the mil-spec 3 dot.

I have heard good things from those who possess SA 1911's and a good number of the pistolsmiths rely on them for base weapons.

I have a mil-spec, it was made in 2002, has the high profile three dot sights. It shoots to point of aim, because I drifted the rear sight a wee bit, and it already was shooting fine for hieght with 230 gr ammo. Mine shoots great. Dead on at combat ranges, I pick up the front dot just a tad when shooting at 50 yards, but I'm not changing it. I do most of my shooting at combat ranges with this pistol anyway.

I shoot an early 90s mil-spec and I sure would appreciate larger sights.  Definately helps with target work.  My GI sights shoot to poa at 50 yds, which is where they are regulated for and about 2" high at 25 yds.  Mikey.

I've got a mil-spec Ultra Compact, made in 2003, that has the 3 white dot sights. This is my CCW and I wouldn't trade it. Shoots to point of aim at 25 yards with 230 grain ammo. I never had to touch the sights.

I have the GI version of the 45- my wife has the mil spec both shoot to point of aim at 25 yards but with my old eyes hers is a heck of alot easier to see - excellent gun for the money

I had a Mil-Spec.  I bought it used as an entry-level 1911 to see how much I'd really like owning one.  I had shot my Brother in Laws Para a few times and enjoyed it.

My Mil-Spec was the 5 inch, parked, with the high-rise three dot sights.

After shooting it for about 6 months I had compiled a list of things that were not quite right for my taste on it, and traded it for a Kimber Custom II.  I didn't like dots on my sights and wanted a beavertail and commander hammer for a different grip angle.  The fit and finish on my Kimber are much better too, but at the cost difference, theu should be.

There was nothing wrong functionally with that Mil-Spec.  It never had a problem with jams, FTFs or anything.  I never really tested its limits though.

I really liked that Mil-SPec.  I love my Kimber.

I have had a stainless mil spec for about a month now. I have made some minor changes so it fits my hand better, like rubber grips, flat mainspring housing, and a wilson trigger. The sights are good and it shoots great. So far, I havent had any malfunctions, I now have all the goodies I wanted from an expensive gun at about half the price.

I carry a Springfield 1911-A1 as my primary duty weapon.  I've never shot the mil-spec but have handled a few.  They just don't have the bells and whistles that the higher end models have.  I do have an old WWII era Remington Rand that has the miserable sights on it and it shoots better than it has any right to.  Carried the old Govt. Models for a long time while serving as an Army MP.

I bought the good old GI Springfield in Armory Green about two years ago. At $399.99, it was a bargain. It is of course a stock GI job with GI sights. I keep the MT boxes of ammo so I can keep track of number of rounds fired, thus far 1,700. Total failures, due to bad extractor, six stove pipes.

I shoot only hardball and most of it is Magtech. I had a trigger job done on it at about 1,000 rds.

The last 500 rds was shot with no cleaning and the only glitch was magazines sticking when the mag release button was pushed. A small amount of fouling gets in the magazine well.

It is NOT a target pistol, it IS a combat pistol.

At some point I'll install a wide spur GI hammer and get the extactor fixed but I wanted to get a good break in first to identify all problems. It's my primary carry gun in a 1916 holster.

I' shooting a new Mil-Spec as of Christmas day. I've only put 20 rounds through it and it shoots great so far. I cant wait to give it a real work out. Having it in my hand brought back a lot of memories of my days as an Army MP. It was a sad day when the old 1911's were replaced. I put so many rounds through 45's in training that the old muscle memory hasn't failed me yet. I don't mind the sights on a combat pistol.

I just got a Milspec for Christmas also.  Put fifty rounds through it two days ago.  I had no problems with feeding nor ejecting the rounds.  I shot reloads with 230gr  XTP's and 200gr semi wadcutters.  Rounds grouped well even with the shooter behind the pistol.  I got the pistol with the intent of upgrading it as I go.

Had a GI, shot well to POA, size of sights slowed me down. Sold It and got a MIL Spec, super satisfied, so satisfied that I sold my "Loaded" Springfield that I had for over three years.  The Mil Spec (mine) is all that I needed, no bells and whistles, just an accurate, dependable and inexpensive Tool.  Plus I was able to get a Ruger .357 50th anniversary flat top.........................a happy man.
