Encore and barrel question

I have an encore and a custom 300 win mag barrel.

When the barrel is closed, tightly on the encore you can hold the gun sideways and see a gap, between the end of the barrel and the frame.

I mean a BIG gap, something you can put several sheets of paper into.

Is this normal?

Is it safe to shoot?

Would this affect accuracy?

Is this normal? "Normal" is a relative term. But too much is not good. Take a feelers guage and measure the gap that you have and post this number.

Is it safe to shoot? You stated the barrel was "custom". Once you find out the answer to the above, then you will get some intelligent answers from knowelgable people here. Either that, or you could\should call the barrel maker and ask him that question.

Would this affect accuracy? IF the gap is too large, it could.

I have a factory 209x50 which has a sizable gap on the frame it was purchased on. If I install it on my prohunter frame it is a perfect fit.  I get the same groups regarless of which frame it is installed on. Odd enough all of my other barrels fit perfectly on either frame. I have often considered removing the locking lugs and springs from the ML barrel and replacing them with a set from one of my other barrels to see if this tightens the gap up.

The gap should be no more than .006.
