Take down models?
« on: January 22, 2007, 11:59:55 AM »
There seems to be an interest in takedown lever action rifles latley. I see that browning has a new takedown BLR and wild west has been making them for a while now i also saw a pick on another forum where wild west did a winchester 1895 takedown . How do the takedown models hold up with a steady diet of heavy loads as comparded to non takedown models ?

Like all things in life there is a trade off.  You get the convienence of a Takedown, but it comes at the price of more wear with a steady diet of any loads.  It also will wear each time you actually "take down" the rifle.  The wear will depend on many factors such as quality of the takedown, quality of the metal, preasure of the loads, care in handling etc.  But overall a non takedown of the same quality and care will outlast a similar rifle of the takedown configuration.  How much difference is impossible to say?

I own both TD and solid frame Model 1886 Winchesters and frankly can't tell any difference in accuracy. I don't have any idea how many times a given rifle has been taken down, but they seem to go together easily and retain a tight fit, regardless. I guess it all boils down to personal preference.
I get my kicks from an 1886.
