" put a gun  in a shooting vice and remove the mental aspect.  "

Which almost no one does.  Most don't even put their gun on a rest to sight it in.  Then when they can't be consistent it is all the guns fault.  Then they buy some snake oil to make it better.

Never assume anything.  But I know a lot of guys that would use a gun vice.

I sand all my forends on the side beside the frame with a 1" beltsander so that they are nowhere near contacting the frame.  I do this because my oldest frame does have some bluing wear from before I started sanding.  Even with this large gap between the forearm and the frame the hingepin does not seem to walk out of the hole.

One reason I will eventually buy at least one of the new pins is that I don't like how easy it is for the pin to be dropped from the frame when transporting the frame without a barrel mounted.  The hinge pin being captured in the frame by the two outer flanges will solve this.  I like it even if there is no need to actually fix anything.

That you want one is a valid reason to get one.  Like anything else we all need to make these guns ours in many ways.  When you get yours let us know how it works out, and if you do notice an effect on how well iyour Encore works.

Good luck!
