Uberti 73 lever
« on: September 30, 2006, 03:16:41 PM »
Hi,
Is anyone out there using a Uberti 73 ?
I believe that the older ones had unhardened parts and were subject to wear. I have also heard that Uberti have been taken over by Beretta and the quality has improved.
I just like the look of the 73's. I know they are not a strong action, but I can respect that and load accordingly. I am just concerned about it wearing out.
thanks,
gazz.

Uberti's '73 replicas are right up there among the most popular lever guns for cowboy action.  They're out of my price range, but the ones that I've seen in action work great, and the ones I've handled were well made rifles.  Some of them can use a little gunsmith attention to bring out their full potential, but I'm saving my nickles and dimes to buy one of my own in .38 WCF.  They don't seem to wear out any faster than other rifles in use.  Some guys have been using the same '73 rifles in matches for years without complaint, and that's a lot of hard use.

They seem to hold up well for cas and would probably last a lifetime of hunting.

I shot an Uberti  66 Yellowboy for over ten years in SASS/CAS matches and it is fine, and it's bronze, the steel 73 should be even better.

In our club, about 50% are marlins and I would guess about 30% are Ubertti made 73's.They don't seem to have any more or less problems than any of the other rifles. Their actions can definitely be made smoother.
