Is Bill Gates a shooter??
« on: January 01, 2007, 11:58:10 AM »
Every time I start my 'puter, the Windows XP stares at me for a second or 2. Just wondering where Micosoft got the name idea for the XP version. I've got 2 XP-100's in the safe, and wonder if this had any bearing on how they picked the name. Also, if you had the money he's got, just how big a gun collection would ya have??

I seriously doubt that Mr. Gates is a shooter.  One the second point, if I had his money, I would only have a few guns.  I'm not a huge believer is a large collection of guns that rarely get used.  On the other hand, I'd have a trophy room that you'd need a scooter to get through.  I'd spend the money on hunting trips.  Hunting in Krgystan or Tadjikistan and any of a half-dozen other -stan countries.  I'm there.  Nepalese Yeti?  Sign me up.  All fair chase, no game preserves.  I'd hunt just about year round.

Seems I read something about him being neutral on the subject.  I believe that some anti gunners tried to snag him into their fold and he balked saying he was not interested.  Don't take that as fact, but that is what I remember from somewhere.  Rog

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I have no idea about Bill Gates. I do recall hearing that some of the most antigun celebrities and such are actually some of the only people that can carry handguns in places like New York City and California...................funny how that works isn't!

Didn't mean to high jack your thread gypsyman, just venting!  ;D

Bill Gates is a big lefty, as far as I've heard. While he's probably not a disable-the-populace (so you can lord over them) type, and he's definitely not a fan of taxing and regulating private business out of existence, considering how he spends his charity money, he's probably a one-worlder that thinks the world's problems can be solved by government+technology. Or maybe he prefers to be an unknown quantity, because anything he says that could be construed as even a little controversial will invite harassment (including the legal kind).

No, the story of XP is probably that some marketting genius at Microsoft thought it would be a good idea to use the year of release in the name of the product. The idea being that you would be mindful of when it was out of date, and would want to stay on the upgrade treadmill. It sort of backfired. So now we have the new Windows eXPerience, and Windows Vista (of the future, I presume).
