Time for a new one..... NEF Fluted Ultra Varmint or Encore????
« on: December 27, 2006, 04:46:55 PM »
OK my Dad has informed me that we are going to bust some P-dogs in March so it's time for a new rifle  ;D.  I am goind with a 22-250 but can't make up my mind between a NEF Fluted Ultra Varmint or Thompson Encore.  I am going with one of these two because I like the idea of adding more barrels to my collection without having to drop big bucks on a whole new rifle.  What are the pros and cons between these two choices.  What kind of groups can I expect at 100yd, 200yd, and beyond?  My Dad has a 22-250 26" heavy barrel for the Encore that I can use indefinatly so I would only have to buy the Encore frame to start so that brings the price difference between the two down to pretty close.

Please help me I am goind nuts flip-floping between the two  ::).  Wish I could just buy both  ;)

Thanks

Since you want to add extra barrels buy the encore.  With the encore you don't have to send the frame in for every new barrel.  You also get better quaility and caliber choice.

Thanks for the replies.  Going to go with the Encore.  I think the far greater choices in calibers has sealed the deal.  I want to try the 221 Fireball and the 220 Swift.

Amen!!!  Another soul saved from the pain of a NEF. I would go with the 221 fireball or you can do what I am and wait for the new 17 mach 4 to come out commercially next year.

Well its a done deal.  I picked up my Encore in 22-250 on Saturday.  Fitted it with a 6-24x42mm Tasco Target/Varmint and got her all sighted in.  Now I just need to work up a load for it and see how she does.

Thanks for the replies.

I shoot golf balls at 200 yards with my Encore in 22-250. Tell us how you do and how you like the new Encore.
